A career interest result is easy to produce and easy to ignore. Tell a ninth grader they'd make a good architect, hand them a printout, and move on — nothing changes. The gap between "here's a career that fits you" and "here's what to do about it starting Monday" is where most tools stop, and it's the part that actually determines whether a student's path changes.

What a Sweet Spot Profile actually measures

InFocus combines three inputs — stated interest, measured aptitude, and work values — into a single profile. The overlap between the three, not any one alone, is what we call the Sweet Spot: the region where a student is likely to be both good at something and fulfilled by it, whether or not they've had the chance to discover that yet.

Why the action plan matters more than the score

A student starting behind academically doesn't need to hear that they're capable in the abstract. They need a specific, sequenced answer: which courses to prioritize next semester, which credentials are reachable before graduation, and which gaps — a missing prerequisite, a skill not yet demonstrated — stand between where they are and the path the data points to.

That's what the SMART Goal Action Plan attached to every profile is built to do. It's counselor-reviewed, specific to the student's current transcript and grade level, and revisited as new assessment data comes in rather than generated once and forgotten.

The goal isn't a better career suggestion. It's a shorter distance between a student's potential and the first concrete step toward it.
